Dealing with Data Gaps: Emerging Tools in Predictive Toxicology
Gone are the days of "no data, no hazard." Customers, regulators, and consumers are demanding more transparency with respect to product ingredients and their hazards. Product stewards serve on the frontline to inform customers and ensure that there are no "secret" hazards. However, that task can be challenging due to an incomplete understanding of the toxicology and chemistry of a product ingredient and the expertise required to fill those data gaps. This interactive session will highlight and compare various predictive toxicology approaches (e.g., read-across) and tools (e.g., EPA TEST, OECD Toolbox, Toxtree, Derek Nexus) that will allow product stewards to do their due diligence. How to minimize uncertainty in read-across analysis using multiple lines of evidence will be discussed as well as how to interpret and validate the results of these tools to ensure realistic and defensible hazard conclusions.
