| Advancing Product Stewardship by Accelerating Safer Chemistry (PSX 2019 On Demand) | |
| Market demand and regulatory pressure are driving the need for safer chemicals, particularly in consumer products. A focus on adopting safer chemistries has significant potential to reduce risks throughout the lifecycle of products, enhancing product stewardship. However, it is not necessarily a simple shift. Cost and performance challenges often deter companies from adopting safer chemistries. Or, a company can create unintended consequences by simply replacing chemicals of concern with alternatives without thoughtful assessment of the replacement. Joel Tickner will discuss lessons learned from his work to create the field of alternatives assessment, build supply chain collaborations to accelerate green chemistry solutions through the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council, and engage with policymakers through the GC3 Sustainable Chemistry Alliance to guide supportive policy.
