Maximizing Product Stewardship's Learnings from Life Cycle Assessment (PSX 2019 On Demand)
Many product stewardship professionals already use a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to explore the risks and opportunities surrounding their products. It is a powerful analytical technique but has the potential to deliver far more. Firstly, traditional LCAs typically only consider a few products at a time. Attendees will see how studies based at the facility (or even organization) level can deliver LCAs on every product in a single study. Secondly, we will look at the developing discipline of a social LCA, revealing how the same technique can be used to evaluate social as well as environmental impacts. The theory will be supported with case studies detailing practical implementation. We will introduce LCAs and reveal how these provide useful insights into a product or services' environmental impact, analyzing material extraction, manufacture, transport, use, and disposal through the whole life cycle.
