| Predicting PBT: Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic Properties (PSX 2020 On Demand) | |
| Many chemical regulatory assessments focus on a given chemical's potential to be persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) to human health or the environment. PBT assessments can also be used to flag troublesome hazards, predicted on the basis of the chemical's structure or a limited set of its physicochemical properties. This presentation will review each part of the PBT definition, including common regulatory thresholds. The presenters will outline key data and models commonly used to assess and predict PBT status, and address the limitations to those models. Finally, the presenters will recommend a tiered framework for completing a PBT assessment, and suggest ways that a PBT assessment can be leveraged to satisfy product stewardship objectives.
